help okay.
the universe has decided it's f*ck with the maus and her computer day. Got the day off due to impending ice (which i don't think we ever got) so i decided to chatter with a friend on YiM. Right in the middle of everything... my computer shut down. This has been a problem recently, we will be looking into it soon (may be a prob with overheating... but not sure).
SO... like a good little mausy, i decided to back-up/take off some of my files so i didn't lose them. I decided to start with the picture files and my most "PRECIOUS" files that i REALLY didn't want to lose.
I cut them from the picture folder and copied them to a blank disk. NO info that there wasn't enough room. NO apparent problem except for ONE folder that it had problems with that i told it to Skip. (which always before - even just MOMENTS before - left the non-moved/problem folder where it was)
went to burn. And one of the primary files i was WORRIED about... my Man From UNCLE pictures... was EMPTY on the disk. Not a problem, it would still be on the computer. NOPE! EMPTY FOLDER on the hard-drive.
all my UNCLE picts (many from sites that no longer exist) are GONE! and while logically, i know they're still SOMEWHERE on the drives (because cut/delete doesn't actually get RID of the data, it just tells the computer that it's safe to write OVER that area) - i have no idea how to get it back. It's not in the deleted files, not ANYWHERE that i can find. I'm in tears.
So, oh wonderous f-list: Anyone know how to REFIND/RESTORE a file that's been Cut and Pasted... only didn't paste (and believe me i TRIED to do the "Repaste Here" - that didn't work either - though it SHOULD have!)
i'd be forever grateful.
as it is... i'm off to see if anyone has good UNCLE picture sites that i can visit AND off to check and see when my last backup was of that file.
i'll be the little weepy mess over in the corner if you need me.
the (very upset over something so STUPID - i mean, it's not like it's the end of the world... but still) kendermouse
